MILWAUKEE, WI – The Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Edith C. and J. Oscar Greenwald Fund awarded a grant of $50,000 to St. Francis Children’s Center (SFCC) for operating support. The funds will be used by
the nonprofit organization to help relieve the financial strain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are so grateful to the Greater Milwaukee Foundation for their support during these very challenging times. We know from various reports that the pandemic has wreaked havoc on early childhood organizations across our country, and as a result, sadly, some may have to close their doors,” explained Executive Director Mara Duckens. “This generous grant allows St. Francis Children’s Center to continue doing what we do best: providing high-impact therapy, early childhood education and support services for children with special needs in our community.”

Although St. Francis Children’s Center’s physical building was closed for several months during the Safer at Home order in 2020, SFCC staff continued working behind the scenes to provide virtual services, programming and educational opportunities for families until their Early Childhood Education Center reopened on May 27, 2020. The organization credits generous contributions from individual donors and community partners, along with PPP funding, for helping to keep their doors open during the pandemic.

For more than a century, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation has helped individuals, families and organizations realize their philanthropic goals and make a difference in the community, during their lifetimes and for future generations. The Foundation consists of more than 1,400 individual charitable funds, each created by donors to serve the charitable causes of their choice. The Foundation also deploys both human and financial resources to address the most critical needs of the community and ensure the vitality of the region. Established in 1915, the Foundation was one of the first community foundations in the world and is now among the largest.
